  • 1/2 lb button mushrooms (sliced)
  • 4 dried Chinese chili peppers
  • 2 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1 tablespoon minced ginger
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable broth
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons light soy sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon dark soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • Pinch of salt
  • 2 1/2 tablespoons peanut oil
  • 2 green onions (sliced)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the sauce by mixing all sauce ingredients in a bowl; set aside.
  2. Make the slurry by combining cornstarch and water until smooth.
  3. Steam the broccoli in a skillet with boiling water for 1 minute. Transfer to a plate.
  4. Sear sliced mushrooms in peanut oil until browned; then add garlic, ginger, chili peppers, and green onions.
  5. Combine steamed broccoli with the mushrooms and sauce. Stir for about 30 seconds.
  6. Add the slurry to thicken the sauce and serve hot.
