  • 1 ½ cups pure maple syrup
  • 1 Tablespoon vanilla extract (alcohol-free)
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 4 ½ Tablespoons cold butter (cut into small pieces)
  • 1 cup buttermilk

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 180°F to keep cooked dumplings warm.
  2. In a large pot, combine water, maple syrup, vanilla extract, and salt; bring to a boil.
  3. In a food processor, mix flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Add cold butter and pulse until coarse.
  4. Pour the mixture into a bowl and stir in buttermilk until combined.
  5. Drop spoonfuls of dough into the boiling sauce; cover and simmer for about 10 minutes until cooked through.
  6. Transfer dumplings to an oven-safe dish while repeating with remaining dough.
  7. Serve warm with sauce drizzled over top and add whipped cream or ice cream if desired.
